About the Inn

Lakes Inn at Dunvilla is one of the most unique and interesting hotels in the Midwest, possibly the entire United States. Situated in the heart of Minnesota’s lake country, our inn combines world-class amenities with outstanding service to bring a fantastic experience during your stay.

The inn consisted of 30 total rooms, including 7 suites. One of these suites is a deluxe room, while the other is a premier two-room suite that offers a high level of comfort and luxury. Amenities at our inn include a saltwater pool and hot tub, a lounge and bar area, as well as a spacious meeting room that is perfect for business events or celebrations. We also provide a high-quality fitness room so you can stay physically active during your stay.

Opened in 2016, the Lakes Inn has been under new ownership since 2019. Previously, the site was located on a 9-hole golf course for the original resort.

The site has actually been an attraction since the late 1800’s, when Wilson E. Dunn purchased 160 acres and built cabins to house tourists flocking from the Midwest. With abundant fishing and gorgeous scenery, it’s obvious why the area thrived as a tourist destination.

The original resort owner eventually moved into government service in the Minnesota House of Representatives, but maintained ownership of the resort for many years. He sold the resort in the mid 1970’s, and the old cabins were replaced with updated condos in 1992. The entire property was eventually split; the Lakes Inn at Dunvilla now sits in an area that was previously part of the resort’s golf course.

Today, the hotel, the site, and the entire region attract people from all over Minnesota, the Midwest, and the United States.

In just a 10 mile radius from the Lakes Inn, visitors can choose from roughly 50 lakes for fishing, swimming, water sports, or simply cruising the water.

The area also features parks and attractions that bring people from all over the region. Nearby Maplewood State Park presents beautiful scenery all year long while offering excellent camping and canoeing, while the Detroit Recreation Area is a wonderful destination for adventuring families.

There are numerous activities throughout the area, and town festivals are held practically year round, including winter! One of the biggest events is WE Fest, a country-music extravaganza that annually features some of the biggest names from across the nation.

It’s not just major music events that bring people to the Otter Tail County and the Detroit Lakes region. The 4th of July week, for example, is loaded with fun and excitement in virtually every town in the area. To add to the fun, most towns have their own annual events, such as Pelican Rapid’s Pelican Fest and Detroit Lakes’ Northwest Water Carnival.

When events are not being held, there is still plenty to do. The area is highlighted by wonderful gift shops, restaurants, museums, and more, giving visitors a wide variety of activities to stay busy.
